Curated by Omar Lopez-Chahoud and Patricio Majano, the exhibition features a selection of video works that address the different ways in which artists link to their identity as Salvadorans. The notions that exist around this identity are complex, as they are derived from various sources, including the heritage of indigenous peoples, a colonial past, a civil war, and mass migration.  Everyone’s own history constitutes a node that exists in this complex network. Identity is then the fabric that has been created by the union of unique threads, that is, of all heterogeneous experiences that can be understood as Salvadoran.

Entangled/Entretejidos reflects on the concepts of identity related to the idea of the motherland and relation to migration. At the same time, the project acknowledges plurality to consider identity as something malleable and fluid, not limited to a specific region.  Through the experiences of Salvadorans, we seek to address issues relevant at an international level.

Las nociones que existen en torno a esta identidad son complejas, en parte porque se derivan de diversas fuentes, incluyendo la herencia de los pueblos originarios, un pasado colonial, una guerra civil y la migración masiva. La historia de cada individuo constituye un nodo que existe en esta red compleja. La identidad es entonces el tejido que ha sido creado mediante la unión de hilos únicos, es decir, de todas las experiencias heterogéneas que pueden entenderse como salvadoreñas.

Entangled/Entretejidos reflexiona y problematiza estos conceptos de identidad relacionados a la idea de la madre patria y vinculados a la migración. Al mismo tiempo, el proyecto parte de la pluralidad para considerar la identidad como algo maleable y fluido, no limitado a una región en específico. Mediante las experiencias de las personas salvadoreñas, se busca abordar un tema que es de relevancia global y que encuentra paralelos en muchas otras regiones.
